This is a blog. I know that may come as a shock to some, but let’s try to keep things in perspective. What I’m trying to do with this website is write what I want whenever the mood strikes. It should be noted that the intent of this blog is to be personal without devolving to a diary. I write articles on what piques my fancy. Comic books, music, philosophy, sports, things of that nature. I write from a critical perspective, and as such there will be personal opinions and biases in play, but this is not a site where I’m going to talk about what happened on a certain day or how I feel about a girl or anything else like that. Such things just seem silly to me. I will also, from time to time, post some creative writing that I have worked on. It’s pretty straightforward.
I also wanted to talk about why this blog is titled what it is. The Alpha Primitive is a two-fold reference to two of the things I love most in this world. The actual Alpha Primitives themselves are a group of characters from Marvel comics. They are the slave class of the Inhumans, a race of genetically modified humans that are given various powers and mutations through the metamorphic process known as terrigenesis. Here’s a picture of an Alpha Primitive:

Another reason why I used the term Alpha Primitive stems from a linguistic/philosophical reference. It is not a strict reference per se, in that what I am actually eluding to is the linguistic term of the alpha privative (usually referred to as the privative alpha), which is the description of using a- as a prefix in a word to designate absence or negation stemming from the Ancient Greek language (for example, ά-λήθεια is the Greek word for un-hiddenness, or the absence of hiddenness, and the modern word a-theism is the absence of theism, or the disbelief in god). The use of the negating alpha is key in understanding Ancient Greek philosophy and by extension much of the western philosophical tradition. Comics and philosophy. Two great tastes that have unified in their own little ways to give me a blog title.
So stop by. Kick off your shoes and relax. Read some ramblings. Tell your friends. It’s good times.
Signed,
“Hotblack” Desiato, The Alpha Primitive
